There are two types of people that are looking for accommodation in Canberra, there are the International and interstate visitors who will be surfing the net having a look to see what there is to see in the National Capital of Australia, Canberra and they will have different accommodation needs to that of the person who will come to Canberra for work or transfer.

Novotel - City

Novotel - City

Perhaps the visitor is looking for pure indulgence and would then to prefer to stay at one of the many 5 star hotels available such as the Hyatt, Realm, or the newest star on the block is Diamant Hotel.  Another type of traveler might have a family and need more space to spread out and there are many apartments either in the City with short walks to local parks and eateries. The last other type of visitor is only wanting the barest of facilities as he will be out and about seeing as much as possible of our beautiful city, and with only wanting a bed to sleep would look at either budget or cheaper style accommodation. YHA Youth Hostel, this has pool, spa and other luxuries the more upmarket properties have but at a fraction of the price. There are stacks of budget type properties in and around Canberra that are clean and either walking or a short bus trip into the CBD.

Other types of people who are looking to either transfer within the Defence Force, or Public Service looking for a lifestyle change.  The accommodation that they would want to use would be a serviced apartment this is a great idea so they would then be able to check out the local real estate market before getting locked into a lease. If traveling with a young family the priorities

I would think would be to get a home that was near schools or childcare centers.

There are many apartments in the City and if you are not familiar with Canberra you wouldn’t know that there are more apartments in Manuka, Kingston and other surrounding outer suburbs that are only 10-15mins away from the CBD.

Hotels throughout Canberra are scattered also through both in the commercial heart of the capital city and through the north and south suburbs of Canberra.  Traveling is easy throughout the Capital city you will not find the traffic problems that plague other cities in Australia.  You will be able to move from one side of town to the other in around 30 minutes either by car or we have an excellent bus service. Although few are well circulated in the suburb areas but all the best ones are in city.

Accommodation in the ACT the Nation’s Capital

Once you decide on the type of accommodation you’re after what is there to do in Canberra!  I will share with you a little known secret what a lot of people are not aware of is that there are boutique cool climate award winning wineries scattered within a short 20 minute drive from the CBD of Canberra with a few up to one hours easy driving which makes for a nice scenic drive while enroute to the cellar doors.

I feel embarrassed to say that although I knew that the wineries were at my doorstep I had not bothered to visit until last weekend, I went with a small group of 11 friends.  Starting off at a central point we visited Helm, Clonakilla and Doonkuna Wineries each offered a cellar door where we sipped and tasted some of their award winning wines at our leisure.

After loading the car with the wines purchased we headed to the Poachers Pantry which was a mere 10-15 minutes drive, where we tantalised our taste buds with a range of gourmet smoked meats, poultry.  We leisurely ate our lunch prepared by foods grown on site the food was accompanied by the wines of the region.  Any foodie would be blown away by the choice of foods to taste and purchase.  When you have your accommodation sorted you need to hire a car go to any of these little day trips and see real Canberra when you go off the beaten track.
